I am pleased to announce the publication of my new article on the PM World Journal (Maggio 2025), classified as Case Study.

The paper is titled:

Float Mapping: An Effective Tool to Optimize Project Planning, Scheduling and Risk Assessment

Abstract in italiano

The article was born from a concrete experience on an EPC complex project concerning a subway, where I developed a structured approach to the mapping of the float (float mapping). The method allows you to clearly view the margins available on the entire project program through the distribution of the Float value along the critical and sub-critical paths.

Through the association between Float values and key milestone, A method to classify the paths in critical levels is introduced, thus improving the management of the project. The goal is to optimize planning, monitor the erosion of temporal margins and support decisions based on risk, both in the race phase and in the executive phase.

This approach has proven particularly effective to evaluate the reliability of the screening and to integrate the QSRA process (Quantitative Schedule Risk Analysis) with a more operational and action -oriented perspective.

Editorial update – Interview on PM World Journal (January 2026)

In January 2026, PM World Journal published the interview
“Float Mapping in Practice: Managing Time, Risk, and Alignment”, the care of Aina Alive, developed as an editorial in-depth analysis of the case study presented in this article.

The interview expands the contents of the paper, addressing in particular:

  • the role of project program as a reference for governance and decision-making;
  • the integration between CPM, float management e schedule risk analysis (Rashra);
  • alignment challenges in complex projects and joint ventures;
  • the transferability of the approach also to small-medium sized projects.
