Project risk management training course

How set up a risk management process integrated with project controls in order to mitigate costs and schedule impacts of risks and uncertainness. The course also includes a section about the quantitative schedule risk analysis (QSRA).

Introduction

Project risk management is a core process of project management; risks impact schedule, costs and technical performance; however, risk management also includes “opportunities”. Therefore, risks must be identified and categorized in earlier stage, during the project planning phase, taking into account various aspects of the project like: type of contract, number of stakeholders and technical issues.

Project risks management is a sequential process, which includes:

  • identification and mapping of the risk;
  • risk assessment;
  • risk impacts evaluation (quantitative risk analysis)
  • risk treatment (i.e. mitigation actions and monitoring).

The course is designed to allow a quantitative risk analysis

Learning objectives and topics

The course describes in detail the above processes as well as the specific methods and tools to be used in risk management.

The following tools are described in detail and illustrated through specific templates:

  • RBS (risk breakdown structure);
  • probability-impact matrix;
  • risk register;
  • risk assessment matrix.

A section of the course includes the basis of the quantitative schedule risk analysis (QSRA); this topic requires an understanding of risk and advanced scheduling methodology.
